Dr Peter Levine, creator of Somatic Experiencing®, and Dafna Lender, creator of Integrative Attachment Family Therapy, share practical ways to help children recover from stressful and traumatic experiences
Description:

Children who have experienced trauma, stress, or difficult relationships may struggle with big emotions, anxiety, aggression, withdrawal, or difficulty trusting others. Sometimes, even when children are safe, their bodies continue to react as though danger is still present.

The good news is that children have a natural capacity to heal and become more resilient. With the right support from caring adults, they can learn to feel safer in their bodies, manage overwhelming emotions, and build stronger, more trusting relationships.

In this two-part workshop, internationally renowned trauma expert Dr Peter Levine, creator of Somatic Experiencing®, and Dafna Lender, creator of Integrative Attachment Family Therapy (IAFT), will share practical ways to help children recover from stressful and traumatic experiences.

Peter Levine will explain how trauma affects children's bodies and nervous systems and demonstrate gentle techniques that help children move from fear, tension, or shutdown toward greater calm and confidence.

Dafna Lender will show how playful interactions, movement, physical connection, and emotionally supportive conversations can help children feel safe and connected to their parents and caregivers. Through real-life examples and video demonstrations, participants will see how children who are angry, withdrawn, or overwhelmed can gradually become more relaxed, cooperative, and joyful.

The workshop will also explore how parents' own childhood experiences can affect their reactions to their children. You'll learn ways to recognize these patterns, stay calm during difficult moments, and repair the connection after conflicts.

You will discover how to:

Recognise when a child's behaviour is a response to stress or trauma.

Use simple movement, play, and body-based activities to help children feel calmer and safer.

Respond to anger, anxiety, and withdrawal with greater understanding.

Strengthen trust and emotional connection between children and caregivers.

Help parents manage their own emotional reactions and reconnect after difficult moments.

Whether you're a parent, caregiver, educator, or helping professional, this workshop offers practical tools for helping children heal, build resilience, and rediscover joy in their relationships.
