We all experience anxiety at some points in our life but levels have increased hugely in the pandemic. In this course, Carolyn Cowan will explore the causes of anxiety and how you can learn to manage it better.
Session 1
How hormones affect your reality; we bring so much with us into the room: our stories, our fears, our projections. We are literally a bundle of hormones and we can become very used to our stressed, high-speed and fractured states of being. Let’s play with how to radically change your experience of yourself. We will also explore how the anxiety system is weaponised against us. Through lecture and exercises we will find ways to “hack the amygdala!”
Session 2
Better sleep; we are many months into a deeply troubling time and it is in sleep that our brains process the existential aspect of our thoughts and experiences, our fears, our losses and our projections.This all leads to difficulties falling asleep, disturbed sleep and extended periods of wakefulness in the darkness of the middle of the night…Hard to bear, long-term and lack of sleep does not help with mood, child care, relationships or work. In this session we will explore: how to fall asleep more easily, how to work with the waking periods in the night and, to improve the quality of sleep, generally.
Session 3
Improve your communication by better understanding how you “Hack the Anxiety System!” From our frown lines to the base of our throat we communicate, mostly unconsciously, how we think and feel. Who knew! This mechanism tells us how we feel as well as the other, and when we understand how “it works” we can make huge adjustments in how we feel and in how we make “the other” feel.
