Dancing with the Bear: Healing through Dreams and Imagination
Dancing with the Bear: Healing through Dreams and Imagination
We’ll reclaim ancestral wisdom, call on the power of the animal spirits and embark on shamanic journeys to places of healing and transformation in the world-behind-the-world.
We’ll learn that dreaming is medicine in many ways. Our dreams show us what is going on inside our bodies and what we need to stay well. When we do become ill, our dreams give us fresh and powerful imagery for self-healing. By working with personal imagery – and changing the images in positive ways – we can actually create a new blueprint for the body. When we learn to go back inside our dreams and dream them onward, we open paths of healing for others and ourselves.
We’ll discover that active dreaming is central to soul recovery – reclaiming vital energy we lost through pain or heartbreak, guilt or addiction – and to healing our relations with the ancestors.
We’ll learn to grow healing stories, and how to bring a dream to someone who needs a dream. We’ll grow the sacred space and compassionate circle energy that make the extraordinary easy.

Module 2
Grow Personal Imagery for Healing
While guided imagery scripts can be useful, the most powerful imagery for healing comes fresh from our own lives and especially our dreams, which are constantly showing us what is going on inside the body and what it needs to get well or stay well. Dream images also connect us with parts of ourselves we have neglected or repressed, and connect us with a wiser and deeper Self that can facilitate direct healing and empowerment.
Any image that belongs to you can be a source of power and healing, even the scary stuff you would rather keep in a locked box. The trick is to learn how to develop your personal imagery so it can help you to get well and stay well. Your body is waiting for you to get good at this.
Learn how to harness the diagnostic power of dreams and stock your mental shelves with healing imagery. Practice the powerful dream reentry technique: to journey back inside a dream to overcome nightmare fears, dialogue with a dream character, claim a power for healing or continue the adventure as a lucid dreamer
Module 3
Journey to Realms of Healing
In Greco-Roman times, from as far west as the British Isles and as far east as Ankara, seekers traveled in hopes of healing in the temples of Asklepios, the god of medicine believed to treat patients in dreams. The Celts practiced similar modes of dream incubation in the temple of Sequana at the source of the Seine, and of Nodens in Gloucestershire.
In this class we will review the testimonies and evidence for the successful ancient practice of dream healing. We’ll seek to meet the conditions for entry, which include not only spiritual cleansing, but bringing a dream of invitation and invoking the sacred guide in the correct way.
We’ll seek permission to enter a place of profound imaginal healing. It is known in indigenous North American tradition and is understood to be deep in the realm of the animal powers. You go there only by invitation. We’ll harvest practices for imaginal healing and dream incubation we can use any night, or day.
