HOW WE CHOOSE PRESENTERS

Since 1982 Alternatives has become renowned internationally for hosting the world leaders in Mind Body Spirit matters. This remains our aim, especially with our Monday talks at St James’s Church.

Our Monday talks attract an average audience of around 200 people, with 400/500 for well known speakers, and very occasionally a capacity audience of 700.

We have a selection group that shapes and chooses the Alternatives programme of talks and workshops. Our speakers and workshop leaders come in a variety of ways. Some are presenters who we have hosted before and know are popular. Some we directly invite if we find their work inspiring and interesting. Some come via the main mind body spirit publishers. And some come after sending us a proposal.

Please be aware that unless you are already an experienced speaker and published author, it is highly unlikely that we would be able to invite you to run an event.

For our Monday talks, we pay a speaker's fee of 25% of the net proceeds. For our weekend workshops, we pay a presenter's fee of 50% of the net proceeds. As Alternatives is a non profit-making organisation, we are not able to pay any travel or accommodation expenses.

Submission Guidelines

  • If you would like to be considered as a talk or workshop presenter, then we ask that you send us a proposal of what you would like to offer. View our paper programme of events before sending us your proposal, and present your proposed talk or workshop to us in the way we present our talks and workshops in the programme. You can download the pdf of our current paper programme from our homepage.
  • As well as your proposed event, the proposal should include a brief biography, plus a link to your website and details of your availability (bearing in mind that we plan our events around six months in advance).
  • Email your proposal, with all content in the body of the email and without attachments, to Esther Waldron, one of our directors, who receives the proposals for the selection group, at . Post her your latest book if you have one (address: Alternatives, St James's Church, 197 Piccadilly, London W1J 9LL).
  • Your email will be acknowledged upon receipt. Once acknowledged, do not follow up your proposal with calls or further emails. We regret that the volume of submissions prevents us from discussing proposals over the telephone. We will contact you if we have any questions.
  • We will let you know the decision of the selection committee as soon as possible, usually within a matter of weeks.
